A Boise Winter Staycation

December 23, 2020

This last year has made me realize I appreciate routines and a comfortable home life but it has also started to make our daily life feel like “the same old”. For a change of scenery and pace, we enjoyed a staycation Downtown Boise with Chase’s family. They stayed two nights at the hotel with Lucy while we stayed just for Friday night. When we got settled back home, Lucy said to me, “Let’s go back to the hotel next week!” To say she enjoyed her time would probably be an understatement (and so did we!). I am hoping a Winter Staycation can become a tradition we carry through each winter, as our Downtown is so fun to explore! Here’s an overview of our trip.

Downtown Boise Hotel

We stayed at the Home2Suites, located in a central location of Downtown Boise. Our rooms had a kitchenette (full size fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave & dishes) and a living area. With kids, it’s always nice to have a fridge and microwave! The rooms were great for our little weekend stay but would be amazing for a longer stay as well. We were right across the street from Trader Joe’s so we could easily stock the kitchen if we wanted to!

Itinerary

Thursday Afternoon:
Settled into hotel, swam at the pool – had it all to ourselves the whole afternoon!

Thursday Dinner:
Ordered takeout from The Wylder, walked to The STIL for dessert

Friday Lunch:
Walked to Lemontree for our pickup order, stopped by Dawson Taylor’s for a coffee on the way back to the hotel. I had work to do, but everyone else went to Zoo Boise.

Friday Dinner:
Ordered delivery from Tupelo Honey and then walked to Chip for dessert.

Saturday Morning:
Ordered delivery from BACON for breakfast, swam at the pool until checkout.

Boise Staycation Tips:

  • Don’t get scared of Downtown because of parking! If you have more than one car to park per room at the Home2Suites, there’s a section on the ground level of the parking garage that is city parking (use the ParkMobile app to make things super easy). It’s much cheaper than using the garage!
  • Ask the hotel for early/late checkout. You’ll never know if you don’t ask! Home2Suites was extremely accommodating for us and let us check in a few hours early which meant more pool time for Lucy.
