If you’ve been hanging out with me at the blog for a while now, you know how much I love a good capsule wardrobe. So a challenge centered around a capsule? I’m all in! At the end of last month, I participated in the Fall 10×10 capsule wardrobe challenge. The exercise was created by Lee Vosburgh of the blog Style Bee to encourage creativity in finding new ways to wear items. Guidelines are to grab 10 items and wear them over 10 days, but read more about it here.
For the challenge, I chose these 10 pieces:
1. Paige black jeans
2. Ace and Jig Ramona skirt
3. LACAUSA black slip dress
4. T.La gray short sleeve tee
5. J.Crew blue and white striped tee
6. Madewell white central buttondown
7. Bebe black leather jacket
8. Anthropologie rust cardigan
9. ABLE mules
10. Madewell black booties
My Daily Outfits:
Day 1:
black jeans + gray tee + rust cardigan + black booties + silk scarf
Day 2:
Ramona skirt + white buttondown + mules + belt
Day 3:
Ramona skirt (reversed) + gray tee + KEDS* + hat
Day 4:
black slip dress + striped tee + black booties + silk scarf
Day 5:
black slip dress (as skirt) + gray tee + black leather jacket + black booties + mustard bandana
Day 6:
Ramona skirt + striped tee + black booties
Day 7:
Ramona skirt (reversed) + white buttondown + mules
Day 8:
black jeans + striped tee + black booties + big chunky gray scarf
Day 9:
slip dress + belted white buttondown + mules + mustard infinity scarf
Day 10:
black jeans + gray tee + KEDS*
*additional items that were not in the 10×10, but I found that on my days home with Lou, I needed shoes that I could run around easily in.
Key Takeaways from the Challenge:
–Limits do breed creativity: I normally wouldn’t have paired my white buttondown with my ramona skirt because it seemed to “full” on top, but I loved the look!
–Air on the dressy side: I had 2 tee shirts in my capsule and one blouse, and I wish I would have flip flopped that. I really wished I had two nicer shirts to play around with, rather than two tees.
–Accessories are key: My outfit combinations are all pretty basic- but I added a scarf almost every day and that ended up being the completing piece.
–10 days is a long time: I get that it’s a challenge, but maybe I’ll try a “7×7” challenge next instead of the full 10 days since that seemed to drag for me! By day 9, I felt quite frumpy and wanted the rest of my closet back.
–Versatile pieces are the only way to go: my ramona skirt got worn SO MUCH. Being that it is reversible, I was able to wear it back to back without people really knowing. I also was able to wear my slip dress as a skirt by layering things on top.
