I know we all are a bit sick of being cooped up at home, but something I’ve so appreciated is the focus on optimizing every part of our home to be more useful. One room we realized was not working well for our family was our den/home office. Located right off the main room, it should be used daily for work and kids crafts! Instead, it was just a catch all for papers and nicknacks, all while being in the main line of sight each day. Honestly, just walking by the room stressed me out a bit- here’s some photos to show you the lack of interior design! I snapped these as I was packing the room up so we could start working, so the shelves look empty but they normally would have been stuffed full of books, bins and STUFF!
Our BEFORE pictures:
I’m a bit embarrassed to post these but hopefully it will pose as motivation to come back and post our after photos soon! We’ve lived in the house for almost 2 years and this room just never got decorated. We put up open shelving thinking it would be fun to show off books and decor, and have bins of toys for easy access, but what I learned from this first attempt was that an office needs to have everything contained. Maybe one open shelving unit for decor would work but the majority needs doors and lids to keep the mess from view.

Home Office Interior Design Elements:
- Built-in Desk and Cabinets in a sage green color
- Black Leather Desk Chair (I love this version from Crate & Barrel)
- Antique Inspired Rug (my absolute favorite is a RugsUSA version here)
- Small Laptop table (my favorites are here and here)
- Floor lamp
- Updated ceiling fixture
Stay tuned for after pictures, which will hopefully be sooner rather than later. We had cabinets installed yesterday so there is progress happening over here!
