Living in a dry climate definitely has it’s perks- my hair is much easier to manage than when I’m in a humid place, and I love that in the summer time, all it takes is some shade to cool you right down (that doesn’t happen in the South!) But the downside to it is that my skin has been incredibly dry this winter. So dry that even my usual thick night cream just hasn’t been enough!
My Skincare Routine:
My face cleansing routine is quite simple- remove my CC moisturizer with a face oil (similar to what I use can be found here), wash with a gentle cleanser, then moisturize at night and just a quick splash of water in the morning instead of cleansing again. But this season has made my skin flake in such an awful way that I’ve never experienced before so I knew I needed to do something more than my usual simple routine! The last facial I had, the aesthetician told me I needed to add a product with hyaluronic acid- she said one gram can hold up to 6 litres of water! While the name has “acid” in it, it’s not what typically would come to mind- it’s actually a natural substance that the body already produces. She also dermaplaned my face which sloughed all the dead skin that was flaking off- I am sold on the dermaplane process, which I’ve started more routinely. I found a face spray from Mad Hippie that included the ingredients I wanted and seemed quite natural, so I’ve been adding it into my regime in between cleansing and moisturizing at night and as a primer before my CC cream in the morning. One thing that I read was that in order for the hyaluronic acid to work it’s best, it needs to be used on damp skin so that it has the right hydration to keep- if used on dry skin, it will actually pull excess moisture from the skin which is NOT the goal! So at night after cleansing, I lightly dry my skin but keep it a little damp before spraying on the face mist. While the mist is still a little wet, I rub in my moisturizer which is a thick, oil based cream. A few other tips that have helped me is not only to drink as much water as possible throughout the day, but also to run a humidifier at night.
Dry Skin Tips:
1. Add a product with hyaluronic acid into regime (on damp skin)
2. Use gentle cleansers (and if you can, limit to only once a day, at night) to make sure excess moisture isn’t stripped
3. Turn on a humidifier at night
4. Exfoliate routinely (dermaplaning is amazing, but any exfoliation process will help)
