Even though Central Texas will always be considered “my old stomping grounds,” so much has changed in the area since I grew up there. It has grown exponentially, which, while it presents challenges, it also brings many attractions that are fun for tourists and locals alike. Places like Landa Park in New Braunfels will always have memories from my growing up years (it seriously feels like just yesterday that I was meeting my high school bestie there for a run after school) and will always be a staple to the area. Other places like the Pearl in San Antonio have just popped up in the last few years but are so fun to explore!
This last trip to visit family, we got so many fun things fit in to the agenda. A sister date to Gruene, a first birthday party for my nephew in the park, exploring the Historic Pearl with my friend Linneya, and taking the kids to McKenna Children’s Museum. And the guys even fit a hog hunt into that short trip, so we got to bring home a package of frozen breakfast sausage. Now that’s a souvenir I will allow!
Going back “home” with a toddler made me see the area through another set of eyes as well. Not only did I want to visit friends and family but I also wanted to include kid friendly activities that I maybe hadn’t ever thought about when I lived in the area!
